It's February now in France with snow and freezing conditions. Just next to my home, a tiny abandoned orchard of 5 fig trees was bulldozed away today by a railway company for "security reasons". Being at home at the time and hearing the chainsaws, I went and had a look, it was sad. However, the workers were kind enough let me take some branches and some topsoil home and I immediately planted about 20 figs cuttings two of which were close to the size of my wrist. Usually people talk of taking cuttings of finger thickness but I have nothing to lose in giving it a try.
